Using HP Drivers on OS-X for networked PSC 1350

Hello everyone

i currently use a HP PSC 1350 attached to a WPS54G wireless printserver.
This works no prob with a Windows XP Notebook.
But on the OS-X (10.3) Powerbook i had to use formatic/hpjis (i think that's
what it's called) drivers. This works reasonably well but graphics are not
as good as the original HP drivers IMO.

i noticed that with the original HP drivers it's possible to search the
network for printers, even enter ip numbers. but it doesn't recognize this
printer. i guess it only works with HP JetDirect Printer Servers or some
other limitation is going on. Funny enough, the printer is added in OS-X as
"Socket/HP JetDirect" printer and works that way.
Is there any trick, to find the printer with the original HP driver?
Changing Printer/Queue name on the printserver maybe? or some other tips how
to use with original drivers?

I don't know how handy you are with getting printer drivers to work, but
if you can get a postscript driver for that printer (PPD file), you may
have a good chance of getting it to work.
I'm not too familiar with what type of printing system OS-X uses, but I
know on other unix/linux systems, the modern ones use CUPS. With CUPS,
you just need a PPD file for that printer and you're ready to go.

ps. have you tried to post this on a mac.osx newsgroup? they might
know exactly what to do. you could also research google newsgroups for it.

True. I've either set up or advised people how to set up PostScript printers on
Mac and Linux systems. For either, all that is needed is a PPD. PPDs are
available from either the HP web site (possibly embedded within a driver
download) or the Adobe website (but only for printers with a version of
PostScript licensed from Adobe)... Ben Myers
