I have an ageing system that I want to upgrade the video card in.
Could you guys please tell me your recommendations for a new card.
What is the best card that I can install before the cpu will not keep up
with the new card? Any help much appreciated.
System config shown below:

Darf

Pentium 4 1.3 Ghz ( 800 Bus )
512 Meg RD Ram
G force 2 MX 64 M Video ( No laughing please )

It seems the upcoming Ati's 9600 XT is going to be a mid-budget but very
fast videocard!

I'd say anything in the Radeon 9500-9600 range would do fine. You'll get
full DX9 support for new games, but the card won't be as badly cpu-bound (or
expensive) as would a 9700-9800.

A P4 1.3 isn't that slow, so the previous suggestions of a Radeon 9600 type
card would be OK but I'd probably only bother with perhaps a Radeon 9000
Pro, or 9100 if you see one. They are half the price and on the basis you
currently have a GeForce2 MX I'm guessing you're not into hardcore gaming.
If you are looking to play some of the upcoming Doom 3 / HL2 type games then
get the 9600 and probably a CPU upgrade. At least the 2 GHz Willamette
would provide over 50% boost and these should probably be available fairly
cheap on Ebay (fairly small market for upgrades as the CPU socket lasted
only 1.3 - 2 GHz).

Thanks for your suggestions guys.
I am mainly into racing Sims such as Moto GP 2 and F1 C
So with my current machine I have to cut back on the graphics.
I will also play Duke Nukem Forever if and when it is released.
Does this change your recommendations?
