Vista alive on Laptop

I finally decided to install Vista on my laptop instead of X10.

For my purposes, I am not limited at all by Vista because I don't
expect to run any incompatibe programs on it.

It did take hourst to get my Palm to sync w Outlook 2007, even with
the patch that Palm has on the website.

So, I have an ideal setup:

- Pentium 4 E510 "sandbox" in which I can play with software. It's
also my stereo and iPod computer. And, most of my external hard
drives are set up on it so it's a file server.

- XPS 410. My TV and movie computer, and the one that can process
media files faster. I know using that as a TV compared to the ones
that Tom talks about and others, but it's all I have for now.

- Laptop - for learning Vista, and productivity apps -- Office,
Quicken, etc...

I would have saved hours if I just would have installed Vista on my
laptop which has minimal requirements rather than the XPS 410 / XP +
Vista dual boot.

OK, I have all the "heavy hitters" installed. I still need to
research things like FinePrint, Snagit, UltraMon, Post-It Note, Object
Dock Plus, Taskbar Commander, Treesize Pro, Where Is It, Win RAR, Win
Zip, WS FTP Pro, Key Remapper (I use to disable caps lock and move the
delete key to the right control key).

Mainly just the little utilities that I can certainly do without.
Hopefully the vendors will release updated versions for registered
users rather than put out a new release that I would have to pay to
upgrade to.

I found out that the newest Intervideo WinDVD 8 works on Vista.

So, the question: Is Vista ready for prime time?

It all comes down to what a user needs. For my laptop it's prime
time. There are no show-stoppers at all. The sidebar gadgets are
pretty handy. I have one that times how long I have been on my
computer. So far 31 minutes! I can have a Weather Bug sidebar
without installing that irritating software.

There is a calendar so I can remember which day of the week it is, so
hopefully it will help me to not say "Have a nice weekend!" on
Tuesday.

With the 640m/1405 1440 x 900 resolution, I can keep the sidebars on
top most of the time. Or, there is a handy shortcut - Windows Key +
Spacebar.

I would like a short cut that will enable me to change a folders
display to large icons (i.e. thumbnails). I know I can do Alt + V +
X, but I'd rather have a control key combination. Can I associate a
set of key presses with a shortcut key?
