Inachis E-Backup 1.42 raises all hell, but installs after "compatibility"
adjustments by Vista.

Haven't verified whether it successfully can bring OE mail over to "Windows
Mail" in Vista.

Well, you are on the bleeding edge, using a Microsoft OS before the first
service pack is available. Software manufacturers are in catch-up mode.
Hardware manufacturers have the choice of doing nothing (typical of HP) or
updating software and drivers to support their hardware. The cheaper the
hardware device, the less likely it is that the manufacturer will provide Vista

I was able to get Avast to work on my now hibernating Vista PC.

The print function of my HP 7410 worked with the XP driver (which I
wouldn't have installed but somehow I did something that made it
install over the network).

About Vista compatibility. I use a lot of apps that are not Vista
compatible. Most of the mainstream ones are, or should be soon (key
word: most).

If you use mostly those, then there is a greater chance of success.

I don't know what Phonetry is, but because it's mainstream it's an
example of things that are hit and miss.

Is Vista your only OS choice?

Enter your scanner model number, and see if there are Vista drivers
for it.
