Thanks for the info Bear. The problem might be the Nero (she didn't
have much else installed).

Thanks Stew. Yes, my friend has Window XP Home. Now that I know
there is a problem, I'm going to install the latest video drivers and
reinstall DirctX (Nero is already up to date). If the problem
persists, I'll take off Nero and see what happens.

if installing new drivers dosen't help, you might have more luck with using
windows system restore to return the operating system to a point in time
before you ever introduced nero (since you mentioned that this problem began
after iinstalling nero). you might also try to choose 'custom' when
reinstalling nero so that you can choose not to install the nero video
player (can't imagine any other part of nero having anything to do with
video).

Having both Nero AND Roxio on the same computer is not usually a good
idea, uninstall both if present, clean the leftovers from the
registery, then reinstall just one OR the other.
