Hi,
It is PC, with Gigabyte 8PE667U2, Pentium 2.5, 2x512 Mb
Crucial Ram. Not overclocked. Box and PSU is Antec, good
powerfull loud and roomy.
This morning it wouldn't start. It didn't past the very
beginning of POST, sometime the screen would just stay black
and sometime it would hang just before memory test. Ever since
I build it in February 03 no problems (apart from 1st mobo
being DOA).
Nothing was burned (the tipical smell of burned transistors and
fried caps from my HIFI days was absent) and disks and blowers
were spinning. So I started with memory sticks one at a time.
After several runs it appears that slot 2 (midle one) is dead.
Also an orange led on the board is alight next to the slots all
the time. Didn't notice that one before. Both sticks are OK in
slots 1 and 3. Power up all the way to XP, and is OK. But
soundcard is now dead. Pulled it out, drive as well (yeah is is
audigy and I did fell for that drive gadget), back in and now
it is OK again. Must had dislodged something while fidling with
sticks.
Tested all disks no errors. Run SoundForge and Paintshop 7 at
the same time, no problems.
But...
I lost confidence in that board. Is it going to die on me? What
is the meaning of that orange led? Is slot 2 truly dead? Can I
return it to Dabs (UK), bought in February 03?
Your opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
ayosha
