Which computer to hook up to LCD HDTV 1080p? Optiplex or Inspiron or Studio?

I was originally going to buy an Optiplex 360 and use
it as a "base" and add a TV tuner card and video card
with HDMI out.

However, I'm beginning to think that's a bit like
taking a truck and trying to make it into a car!

Is using the Optiplex a good idea.... or should I just
go ahead and buy a "media" type computer with all the
hardware in it?

This computer would be hooked up to a 32" 1080p TV and
used as media computer as well as conventional computer
(excel, web, etc) but using the big 32" TV

Advice?

A niche? As far as I can tell, the Mac mini is *very* popular for this
task.I hear it come up very often in such discussions. It does run Windows,
and probably Linux as well. :-)

I think you really meant to write "Apple TV".
