Why does Intel Matrix Storage Manager start verifiying?

I assume that this is the best group to post the following problem. If not
would someone please advise.

I have two identical 500GB drives (not XP boot) in RAID 1 ICH10R. I am
getting annoyed that the Intel Matrix Storage Manager ver 8 decides to
verify and repair which takes two hours to complete. It has never found
any error and neither has running chkdisk or Kaspersky AV.

My system is stable with all my five drives regularly defragmented.

Motherboard is Gigabyte GA EP45-DS3P with 4GB Corsair Dominator, Intel 8400
core2 running XP pro SP3 and all updates

What might the cause of these verify and repairs?

regards,

Beemer

SM will start a verify/repair if the system was not shutdown properly, and
the
RAID was not marked as "clean". This check is done on the next Windows boot,
and will generally not be flagged on the RAID BIOS boot screen, if you have
one.

If you're reasonably sure that the verify is unnecessary, you can click on
the
icon in the system tray to call up the Storage Manager, go into Advanced
Mode,
right-click on the RAID and cancel the verify/repair. The most recent
version of
the SM, now called Intel Storage Console, is 8.6.0.1007 released just last
week.
Also make sure your BIOS is up-to-date.

I have a similar problem. I am running a RAID 1 with ICH9R (Dell
Precision). The status says "Verify," and I am unable to get Windows
to boot. In both safe mode and normal startup I get to a cursor with a
black background, but no desktop items or login prompt. The hard drive
indicator light is on constantly, but it doesn't seem to be doing
anything. I have run hardware diagnostic tools and found no errors.
Could this be running a verify in the background, or is there some
other problem going on?

-------------------------------------------

When Intel RAID is doing a verify, it can sometimes take 10x longer
to boot Windows than normal because of all that high-priority disk
activity in the background. Walk away from the machine for at least
10 minutes to give it a chance to get to the desktop, then you can
call up SM and cancel the verify. If it's still running with no desktop
after 10 minutes, hit the reset button to reboot the machine; it may
come up faster the 2nd time around.

Make sure you have the most current version of both SM and your
system BIOS (part of which is the RAID BIOS). I've found that over
the past couple of years, the verify routine is a bit more intelligent
than it used to be.
