I'm upgrading an E520 and an i1420, from Vista HP to Windows 7. Will new
drivers be necessary, or will the Vista drivers be fine?

(I'd like to do a clean install.)

I went to the Dell site, and it's not possible to select Windows 7 as an OS
when searching for drivers for these machines.

Thanks.

Vista drivers should be fine and definitely stick to the clean install.

I've installed the RC and the RTM code on my E520 with absolutely no
problems. I did have trouble with my HP 4180 AIO printer, but I was able
to install the software using compatibility mode.

Whatever drivers are not already on the Windows 7 DVD, you can download
them from the chipset manufacturers' web sites, like Intel, nVidia,
AMD/ATI, Creative Labs, Realtek, etc... Ben Myers

If you have a second computer for downloading onto another computer and
a memory stick to transport downloaded drivers from one computer to
another, no problem.

if you do not, I suggest making a complete inventory of all the hardware
devices and their device drivers in both systems. At minimum, download
the network drivers as a safeguard, to allow you to access the internet
with a Windows 7 computer and get the other drivers you need. If the
network hardware in your E520 and i1420 is Intel or Broadcom, no problem.

Just suggesting some foresight and "look before you leap." A lot of
other people have posted here and elsewhere after installing an OS
release, only to find that (OOOOOOPS!!!) something was missing... Ben

Chances are good that Windows 7 will provide any driver needed on these
older systems. I would suggest not installing any Vista driver before
trying Windows update after the install.
