If you paste the message id into any mozilla browser address window, it
pulls up the message... for example, your message;
news://public.msnews.microsoft.com:1...TNGP05.phx.gbl
ie won't (can't) do the same, but, depending on your file association
settings, pasting it into ie will result in ie calling outlook
express... however, since outlook express is brain dead, the ":119" has
to be removed first.
I use the current incarnation of the "mozilla suite" which includes
browser, email client, newsreader, html editor and several other
tools... the email client and newsreader are very powerful and have a
good interface... there are several options in the newsreader that no
other newsreader provides such as "threads with unread" (see,
http://bevhoward.com/moz.htm#News) which saves an unbelievable amount of
time.
As for threads, running seamonkey from the command line with the /n
switch and message id used to open the message in the seamonkey
newsreader, but that no longer works. You can, however, use the
information from the message in the browser to get to that newsgroup and
filter down to the specific message and thread.
did this finally connect with what you were asking?
