I migrated my tablet (MotionComputing LE 1700) to Windows 7 yesterday and I
think for once I must say something I say rather seldom about an MS product:
Wow! I am really impressed!
My tablet had come preloaded with Vista Business about 2 years ago and it
had sucked from day one (slow, constant hangups, bad responsiveness to pen
operations, etc.) and things got worse and worse over time until I had come
to a point where I was using it less and less (it always was/is my secondary
device only - I had mainly bought it as "couch surfing device" and because I
was intrigued by the idea).
But after migrating to Win7 I now for the first time got the impression:
this could indeed lead somewhere!
The handwriting reco is nothing short of stunning (it's almost as if they
invented "brain-reading" ;-) )
And the responsiveness is awesome! Suddenly my tablet is snappy and I can
operate it in the way and speed as I always wanted (and could only dream of
so far...).
And most amazing to me: since I was going to bite the bullet anyway mostly
out of curiosity I had tried the upgrade (i.e. NOT a clean slate fresh
install) and to my amazement almost all my apps. (except a print preview
utility of which I had to download an newer version) actually made it and
are not only working but working better than ever! Even my desktop looked
familiar when I logged in the first time after the install!
So: all in all - this was a most astonishing and pleasent exercise! Well
done, Microsoft!
Michael
P.S.: My only hope and wish is, that the system's state remains that good
and that it does not deteriorate and "bit-rot" over time again as all
previous Windows installs of mine have to far!
