Wireless Ethernet Problem

I have a Toshiba laptop with a built-in ethernet adapter.
However, I disliked all the wires, so since a relative of
mine had an extra Linksys wireless card that plugs in the
side (PCMCIA ports, I believe they're called). Anyway, I cannot
seem to get that to work AT ALL! I'm sure the card is
fine, because it works fine on my relative's laptop. I
have the driver, but windows XP never says "new hardware
detected".

I suspect it might be some strange conflict that a laptop
cannot have 2 ethernet adapters. If thats the case, how
can i disable my wireless one? I tried going to control
panel > system > device manager and then deleting the built
in one, but it said something about it was essential to
boot-up. Though it did delete it, when I rebooted the
computer, it was back again!

Any ideas?

There are two standards for those PCMCIA slots - "16-bit" and
"Cardbus" (or 32-bit). Check and see that you haven't put a Cardbus
card into a 16-bit slot....

Anyways, that's my two bits.... ;-)
Good Luck!

Not that I know, I just think I remember my wireless PCMCIA network
adaptor was a 16 bit. But I HAD to go to CONTROL PANEL and uninstall
the previous device and all it's drivers...worked well in Win2K, would
expect the same in XP...
( switched from Belkin to Linksys ethernet adaptor on notebook
PCMCIA)
HTH.

My laptop is fairly new, so I'm pretty sure the slots are 32-bit
cardbus, however, the wireless adapter card is old. If the card is
16-bit, will it work on a 32-bit cardbus?
