I am running a KT7A-RAID V1.3 with a1900 XP CPU, windoze 98SE. I
flashed the bios with the 9R + HPT370 v 2.34. Everything booted up and
worked great. Just to be sure, I rebooted and it all still worked
fine.

I had read in here that when I flashed with the newer HPT bios, I had
to install the same version drivers. So I went into device manager and
installed the 2.34 drivers. I ignored the part that told me the
drivers were not exactly for the device I had, secure in the knowledge
that I was installing the correct drivers. HMmmmmmmmmm...

After that, 98 starts booting, gets to the point where it should show
the background next, goes to a black screen with a flashing cursor in
the top corner. No error message... nothing. Just stops.

It will boot into safe mode so I tried removing the hpt devices in
device manager to see if it might boot and find them for proper
installation. No change. It will still boot in safe mode, but only in
safe mode. Please help. Thank you.

boot to last known good configuration? safe mode? if you can do last
known, then re-verify the driver you loaded was the correct for your OS and
hardware?

Thank you Tom. I tried all that and it didn't work so I got the
original HPT drivers from the MB CD and copied those files into place.
then it finally booted into windoze 98.

According to the HPT screen, the 2.34 bios was successful. I
downloaded the 2.34 drivers from the same place (sudhian) so I assume
they are correct. However, things work on the old original drivers and
don't on the new ones. Can you shed any light on why this is? Thank
you.

no idea as to why the driver would not work and have not heard of anyone
else having this problem loading 2.34 drivers. it has always been best to
have bios and driver versions matched, as you are aware. the warning about
not correct drivers for your hardware (or OS, whichever...) is a concern...
re-verify that you have the correct driver package for the OS and hardware?

Hi, Rodney. There are three flavours of the drivers. One
set is for Windows 98/SE/ME, there is another set for W2K
and a third set for WXP.

The sets for W2K/WXP will *not* work for W98/SE.

Ensure you are using the proper set.
