WWDC -- MacBook Pro?

(I usually follow the WWDC & MacWorld announcements with the zealotry
of Holmes solving a case, but I guess I've been asleep at the wheel --
busy with travel, house guests, and what-not. I thought that the WWDC
Keynote was set for /Tuesday/ , e.g.)

The new Mac Pro's look great, and my wife and I will be buying a pair
early next year to replace our Dual G5's. I am soooo behind -- I've
given two Intel Macs as gifts*, but /not/ /one/ of my nine Macs is a
Mactel, and I need to start my upgrade cycle with a MacBook Pro. My 17"
PowerBook is going strong, but my other two PowerBooks are getting long
in the tooth. I had hoped to be able to order a new, improved MacBook
Pro today. Any guesses as to when I will be able to do that?

*No -- available only to H.S. students who are both gifted and

The advice about Power books is tie them to a server
fully mirrored so if one needs fixing just grab a clone

A danish user said so in an apple shop here that his firm buys them 3 at
a time for that reason

Do you mean MacBook Pro or Mac Pro? The MacBook Pro has been available for a
few months. The Mac Pro is available as of today.

<smartalec response>

When Apple releases them.

Seriously, the rumor mills are silent about that. My guess is that if
it's not within a month, it won't be until MacWorld in January.

Sigh...

I'm not looking for the MacBook Pro that has been available for a few
months. I'm looking for the *NEW* *IMPROVED* MacBook Pro.

I don't recall there being any announcement at WWDC of a "new and improved"
MacBook Pro. My gutsie is that they won't appear until MacWorld in January.

There isn't one yet, and Apple hasn't said anything about any.

I too was hoping that Apple would announce that the MacBook and
MacBook Pro models would be getting the "Merom" mobile Core 2 Dual
chip set as a combination speed bump and power per watt
improvement.

I actually us a laptop on my lap, and less heat and a longer
lasting battery are definitely something I'm interested in.

And like you, I'm also still running on PowerPC chips. I'm very
tempted to get the Mac Pro announced yesterday, just to get into
the MacTel game and see how well Parallels and VMware function on
MacOSX (but my needs are a bit different from most virtualization
users, I have to actually do kernel debugging in both Linux and
Windows, and that requires multiple virtual sessions connected via
a pseudo serial or network port).

Anyway, Maybe Apple will use MacWorld France to announce the
pre-Christmas product boost. They have done things like this
before.

PS. Couldn't you gift an iBook or PowerBook and keep the next
MacBook for yourself? :-)

I was kind of hoping for a new improved iMac. I want to buy one soon for
a media center, but I just know they're going to update the processor
just *after* I buy one.
