XP & Photosmart 1215 Crash

When I surf the web or move files around while printing the printer crashes.
The on light starts to flicker. I can get the print job done only if I
leave the system alone during the printing process. I have a parallel card
installed so have two parallel ports. The printer also stalls often while
printing. I tried to configure the printer by forcing it to use LPT1 and
also have the most up to date drivers. I even did a clean install of XP.
Can anyone help? Would cabling the printer to USB help??

For the record, It seems that since I installed the USB cable the drivers
are more stable and the printer appears to be functioning better.
