My Sun 420r has a fault that I believe lays somewhere in the main
board. When I attempt to power it up using the power button on the
server it will power up for about 30 to 40 seconds before turning
    itself off.
However if I bring the server up using the keyboard power button and
keep the button depressed then the system comes fully up and stays up
right up until the point were I take my finger off the power key
causing it to power off again less than 5 seconds after.

Can anyone explain this behavior? I can only think that by holding the
key down I am blocking a power down signal?

I have yet to run any diagnostics on the server beyond "test-all",
this is new territory for me so I intend to spend a couple of hours
this evening reading the diagnostics section of the 420r service
manual to find out what test options I have.

Thank you for reading and any illumination on this topic would be
    appreciated.

    David.
