Hi,

Irecently bought a Linksys Wireless-G PCI Adapter. This card works great under Windows XP on my P4 with Asus P4C800 motherboard. But when I insert that same card into any of my PCI slots of my P2 with an ABit-BH6 1.0 motherboard the system hangs when powering up. Even the BIOS does not beep. The card requires PCI rev. 2.0 but since BH6 uses the Intel 82443BX chipset which is PCI rev. 2.1 compliant this should not be the problem. Someone even suggested that blocking of pin A14 could solve the problem, but the PCI card does not use this pin. Any idea on how to solve this problem?

Please CC me,
Frank.

I have the same problem with my BE6 (v1) and the linksys-g PCI card. I can get the system to boot, but it won't install. I'm used to the BE6 conflict resolutions (thanks Tom G and others for the great info!)by moving cards around and looking for IRQ problems, but this one seems impossible.

My system:

Abit BE6 MB - latest bios
Pentium III 1Ghz slot1
ATI 9000 pro 64mb (AGP)
SB16 sound card (PCI)
Lynksys ethernet (PCI) - uninstalled during the wireless-G trial Firewire (PCI) Antec 350W PS Promise ata133 controller card (PCI) WIN XP sp1 Maxtor 80G ata133 HD WD 40G ata100 HD HP 9300 cd-rw

Very stable system - I usually clean install once a year to unload junk and keep the system fresh.

Might this be a conflict with the BX chip set? I've tried all my tricks but to no result.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks,

Bob

I contacted Linksys about the problem I'm having with my card. They claim that the card is a PCI 2.0, but now I don't believe them anymore. It has to be a PCI 2.2 card like most of the wireless 54G cards made nowadays. And those mainboards only support PCI 2.1. So the big question now is: are there 802.11b/g cards that still use PCI 2.1?

Frank.

Have similar issue wiht BE6 and WMP54G. This PC boots up fine, but Win XP Home does not see the card. Tried several slots already. Even removed bracket cause I thought it might not be seated very well in slot.

One boot, XP did see new hardware, but after installing the driver, next boots don't give the card anymore.

How can I verify that BIOS is seeing the card?

Koen
PS. I tried Linksys support, but we had issues getting messages across their Live Online Support tool.

Sorry, typo is BH6. Mixed it up with my toasted SE6 (Caps blown). Koen

Can't answer your specific question. But I used the Linksys USB version on my KT7A for a year with no problems. I seem to recall on that one you were supposed to install the drivers before plugging in the card to make sure Window got the ID right.

Before that, I used a NetGear Aviator Pro in a PCI adapter for a good while. It worked fine for sharing broadband, but was slow on file transfers with a 2 mbps cap.

Has anyone had any luck in resolving this? I've got pretty much the same issue with my BE6 and the WMP54G. It won't even POST with the card in, I've tried every slot and disabled pretty much all the bulit-ins and still nothing.

Failing that, does anyone know of a card that actually works in these motherboards AND supports WPA?
