I have an abit ic7 with a p4 2.8Ghz HT. I have removed the retail northbridge cooler and mounted a zalman nb32j passive heatsink. I'm worried about if there is enough space for a zalman 7000cu cpu coolear instead for the crappy intel retail cooler which is use now. If someone could take a picture or messure how much their zalman 7000cu is outside of the p4 frame and how close both height and width it is to the northbridge chip. or any other comment or thought whether there is enough space for the cooler.

How does the Zalman NB heatsink fit to the NB chip?

in other words, he used thermal epoxy since there were no holes in the mobo next to the NB to facilitate mounting. if you look at the link he provided, you can see that they have two mounting methods. one using thermal epoxy and one using holes in the mobo next to the NB.

please see the links in your first post on this topic where I posted some pictures at your request.

you might not want to start multiple threads on the same topic.

RE: my other post on Zalman size. After looking at your pics I don't think the CNPS-7000 will fit unless you trim some of the fins on the NB heatsink. The CNPS-7000 "may" provide some additional airflow to the NB heatsink.

I use the Arctic Silver Thermal Adhesive to make the Zalman northbride cooler stick. I have no idea how strong the epoxy is perhaps I can get it off without destroying my board... Anyone got experience with this??

Very unlikely to succeed withoiut rupturing one or more of the BGA soldered joints.............. new motherboard or an expensive Homie bill. Might be a lot better to file/saw off the interfering part of the fins on the 7000cu. Unlikely to change the 7000 thermal resistance very much.

BTW, there is a moral to this tale.... consider ALL alternate possibilities before ever glueing down ANY large after-market heat-sink.

On a related subject.............

To those who are contemplating Northbridge heat-sink mods on the IC7.............and particularly the IS7 (note the different location of its AGP slot).... watch out for mechanical interference problems with performance video cards (e.g:FX5900) having either passive or active cooling on the BACK of the video card. For example, the MSI FX5900 has a large fan on the back of the card........BTW, likely to be excellent for overclocking, but might not fit an IS7 at all regardless of NB mods.........would need careful checking before purchase.......

the Flower does provide airflow to the NB, personal opinion. it also has resulted in much cooler PWM temps as well.

I wonder if anyone know how the
zalman cnps6500b-cu will fit on the ic7? since fins goes the other direction. I either dont know which cooler is best the 6500b-cu or the 7000cu but I will defiently choose the one which fits if there are no notiable difference between the two coolers.
