Hi,

Just wondering if anybody does have a good suggestion what I can try to get my mobo back to work.

I have a Abit KG7-R with 2 * Apacer 256 Mb and XP Athlon 2000+ that was working fine without any problems (hwy did you changed then you ask ? ;-) ) After upgrading to a Piv system I wanted to build this Abit Mobo in my parents pc. I connected everything pressed the power button, see the 3 keyboard lights flashing up really fast and then out, hear the cooler starting running but no video output ... Checked the Matrox G200 AGP Videocard and this was connected ok, tried again but still no luck. Since the power supply was different I connected my previously used and working power supply for this mobo but this didn't helped. I remounted the mobo so it was no any longer in the case, connected only video vard, check memory in dimm 4 and 3, didn't touched cpu and tried again but still no luck. Then I found something strange : when I reset the bios (wait longer then 5 min. and not 5 sec as mentioned in the manual) I'm able to start up the pc. I have then a video signal, he detects al my memory, the speed of the CPU is lower then my processor. When I press then the power button the power drops down immediatly (ok) but when you turn on the power again no video signal, sometimes you can turn off and on the power and have some video sginal but most of the time you only get 1 time video after resetting the bios.

I upgraded the bios to latest firmware but didn't helped neither. Changing the power supply to enermax 350 w didn't hepled ... .. . When you boot up the mobo and the video signal is not detected you don't hear the floppy drive seeking. Turning of the pc is only working then by removing power or keeping power button pressed in longer then 5 sec. Although the internal speaker is connected I never hear anything through it.

Is there anything I could do to try to solve this problem or is buying a nex mobo (never had any problems with exchangeing mobo's) the only solution for my problem? (this is frustrating me since I only changed the mobo and after bios reset you do get video signal and you're able to boot)

Thnkx 4 your reply !

when you clear the CMOS, go into the bios and check which is set to boot forst (AGP or PCI) and adjust it so it is set to boot with the AGP card first!

sounds like the CPU Fan detection is shutting down the pc. either the cpu fan is no longer reporting RPM feedback correctly or something like that. the trick is to have a fan that has good RPM feedback hooked up long enough to get into the bios and disable the fan detection on the PC Health screen.

Thnkx 4 the input Thomas.

My pc has been working for 2 years without any problem. And now suddenly my fan should give problems ? I checked the fan status in bios and since my cooler has two fan's and one 's connected to the cpu fan and other to case fan. I could see that the rpm's are coming in both and the 2 of them are
-pritty- all the same.

BTW there's no possibility to disble the fan detection in this bios. In my asus bord I can do it but didn't find it in this abit board bios.

Tried this but no result :-(
According to the manual this value is only going to be checked if there's a PCI and an AGP video card in the PC.

in the newer bios sets, my best recollection was that there was a CPU fan detection circuit and in a KG7 board I was troubleshooting with a friend, there was such a setting as well. I only went down this path in the event that the CPU fan started throwing bad RPM signals back to the board for some reason. swap the plugs on the two fans just for testing sake.

Clear CMOS and enter BIOS on reboot.
Set Multiplier and Frequency for the CPU.
Be sure to set AGP for initial display as was mentioned previously. Use the defaults unless you see something you know needs to be changed in the BIOS setup. SAVE SETTINGS and REBOOT

Good Luck
