I have purchaced 2 PC2700 512MB Inferon for my computer. If I only have one stick of memory in the computer everything works great, but the point of having two is to use them and that is not working so great. My OS is windows XP so it doesn't have that memory issue that ME and lower has. I have tried ever config in my DIMM slots and none of them work. In some configs I get nothing but one long beep every 5 secs. (memory error), in other configs my computer is about to load windows when it restarts, and in other configs my computer stops (everything remains on, but the process seems to halt) just before the Windows XP load screen. I have had both pieces of memory in the system one at a time and everything works great (with the exception of wanting more memory). I have lowered my DRAM FSB to 133 to try and help things and increased the voltage for the DRAM to 2.75 (default is 2.55). Nothing seems to work. Any help would be appreciated.

You know I was just experimenting this evening with my kx7 and the FSB. I did notice something I don't recall seeing before. Perhaps it will help you.

I noticed that even though I would change the FSB, say from 166 to 133, that the change would not always be saved after exiting the bios and going back in, it would remain at 166. I discovered that I had to push the reset button after I made a change from 166 to 133.

I have updated the bios recently. I wonder if the new bios has this problem. Don't really know...

You might retrace your steps and pay closer attention to the FSB. Your doing the right thing - lower the FSB.

The other major change would be changing the cas latency from say, 2 to 2.5. Is your memory rated at 2.5. As you know, there is no 3.0 setting in the kx7. That would leave FSB as pretty much your only recourse to getting things to work.

The third setting (minor effect) to try is to change the command rate
- from 1 to 2. Once again, if your single stick memory config only supports 2 then you have nothing to adjust but the FSB.
