ACER Touchpad: tapping pad doesn't work?

    Hi all:

I've borrowed someone's ACER TravelMate 4072WLCi laptop and there's one
thing about it that's driving me crazy: a rapid double click on the
pad itself does nothing, while on all other laptops I've used a
doubleclick on the pad is the same as clicking on the left mouse
    button.

I've looked through the places in the control panel where this function
might be controlled and I can't find any way to turn on the double
click. Does this particular computer not support the double click
function, or am I just overlooking something?

    TIA.

There should be a Synaptics Pointing Device icon in the System Tray
area. If you right click it, is the "Tap to Click" option enabled?
