Airport Extreme Base Station problems

Discussion in 'Apple' started by Steven Fisher, Sep 9, 2004.

  1. I'm having some problems with an Airport Extreme Base Station. Both
wired (Windows only, multiple 100 Base T through a switch) and wireless
(Mac only, 1x802.11g, 1x802.11b) stations have constant connection
    problems.

I am at a loss to diagnose this. I'm not even sure I'm in the right log
file. But this is what I'm seeing, starting shortly after Powerbook
    wakeup:

    Any clues?

  2. I seem to have (sort of!) fixed it by swapping out the LinkSys switch
for my old LinkSys (wired only) router, and putting the AirPort Extreme
downstream of that (with DHCP turned off so it just extends the
LinkSys's network). This seems MUCH more reliable; but the catch is, the
    LinkSys was not 100% reliable.

I'll do some experiments with power sources/physical proximity this
weekend. That's a good idea. If it doesn't work, the AE is going back
    for replacement...

  3. Well, it seems to be related to the Airport's DHCP support. Since
turning off the Airport's DHCP server, things have got much better.

If the problem really is the software, I'm pretty disappointed in Apple.
