AMD64 - Don't you really need WinXP 64bit with it?

    What does address space have to do with algorithms? And you mean easy to
    run out of space with 32 bits (4Gigs minus any space allocated for memory
    mapped I/O, half a Gig if I recall.)... harder with 40 bit (physical address
    space - 1TB per CPU). The opteron has a 48bit virtual address, to allow up
    to 8 CPUs all sharing each others address space.
    Thats 'cos it's long, but not as especially efficient. It's all about IPC
    (instructions per clock) and how well branch prediction works.
    Not in 32 bit apps, clearly!

    The whole deal is for many apps here is NO advantage in going to 64 bit code
    right now, it's not needed. For apps that can use the headroom, it will
    make a difference. Time will tell how much difference this is in the near
    future.
