I can't get the floppy to work with the motherboard. I have tried the drive on another computer and even switched the cables and it won't work.

no issues with the floppy drive here on my IC7-G...

Or on my IC7. Even if the drive and cable are good, it's still possible to hook it up wrong. This from the old reliable KT7A FAQ:

-------------------------------------
Your floppy disk cable may be connected the wrong way round. Try reversing it. If this doesn't help check the floppy drive ribbon cable. At one end of the cable, seven of the strands should be split and twisted compared with the rest of the ribbon. If not, and your cable is completely flat throughout, then you need to get a ribbon cable with the "twist" in.

Note that even if the cable and floppy drive are notched, and so there is only one way of connecting the cable to the floppy, then the cable might still be connected the wrong way round. In this case you need to cut the notch off the cable (at the floppy drive end) and reconnect the other way around.

This was an issue with the first version of the IC7 motherboard BIOS (and happened on lots of first-generation canterwood boards, including Intel's own canterwood board).

The cardinal rule for motherboards:

1. You *assume* its manufacturer-supplied BIOS and drivers are broken from the moment you get it. It's only rarely you'll be wrong.

2. Go and get the latest flashBIOS update and motherboard manual. Flash the BIOS to the latest and read the updated manual before you even begin to use the board.

3. W2K and WXP installs on machines with old BIOS in place *may* be corrupted by the updated ICH5R code in newer BIOS versions. This is why you need to flash the BIOS first, and then do your OS install.

4. As well as the updated BIOS, you will also need the updated Intel Chipset Drivers, the updated ICH5R Drivers and the updated F6 floppy disk. The updated F6 floppy disk is absolutely mandatory if you intend to install to a RAID array on either the ICH5R or the SIL Controller.

Best I can do for now. <tm>
