Hi all

Just got a new AT7-MAX2 with a Barton XP2500+ and two sticks of PC3200/512.

Had all the fun of ripping my fantastic - but going to a good homes - KR7A-RAID out and fitting all this in.

Now the fun part - half the time it won't POST at all. When it does, I notice that it says the memory clock is DDR 333, but once or twice it says DDR 400 instead.

My main concern however is that it either won't POST - no beeps or anything, sometimes a soft-reset helps, sometimes not - and that I can't get it to install a damn thing.

By sheer good luck and persistence, I managed to bring up a DOS box and flash to BIOS DD revision, but no dice. Still in the same boat.

Like most of you - I'd guess - I'm very experienced at all this PC building malarkey, but this is the only one that's ever given me trouble.

Over to you guys for suggestions :)

350w power supply (tried with additional powerline and without) Gainward ti4200 - tried Creative ti4200 as well Tried one/both memory sticks in all slots Tried under-clocking Coolermaster Aero7 fan, temperature fine

(Just noticed its reporting my WD1200JB Special edition drive as PIO only in the BIOS - eh??)

For anyone interested, I got it all installed last night and it seems to be working OK. Dragged everything out of the case, reset every jumper and cable I could see and finally got my 2x40gbs to run as RAID again. Got XP installed. Put DVDRW back on. Put 120gb WD back on. All is well. Drives now not showing up as PIO.

However, the POST problem still remains. Colleague at work thinks it might be dry joints on the motherboard perhaps?

Any suggestions?

Thx

Try setting memory manually in BIOS and slow it down.

If you had the same problem with three different motherboards, then the problem is obviously with something other then the motherboard.

Actually, the First board blew up my PS.. twice. (After the first one blew, I stupidly pluged in a second one)
Lots O smoke and blue flashes.. :( second board was posting when it felt like it.. Only one day it didnt feel like it at all.. THIRD board is also not starting every third or fourth time..
RMA pending..
Sent a email to Abit, got this in reply :

I'm really sorry about your experience with the previous two replacement boards. Have you tried to contact our tech support regarding the problems with the boards? You could try , or 510-492-0968. I'm sorry that according to our company policies, we'll need to either receive a board from you first or send you a board after you've made a payment on-line. If you could send the board to us, we'll try to send you a replacement board as soon as possible. Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

Motherboards don't blow up power supplies. Sometimes cheep power supplies do blow and take out a motherboard. What you described here is either totally defective power supplies, or the user shorting something out.

It was the FUCKING motherboard..
It was not a "cheep" (sic) PS..
It was a $100.+ Powmax 500 Watt PS..
AND if it wasn't the board, ABIT wouldn't have
sent me yet another one..

Sheeeze..
