Hi

I have just installed a 160Gb Maxtor SATA HD on my AT7_MAX2 (bios vDD).

When booting, the bios screen shows the right drive capacity, but identifies the drive as ATA133.

I have looked in the RAID setup, but cannot see anywhere to specify that I'm using a SATA HD, the highest option that can be selected is ATA133.

Is this a known bug? Should I be using a different bios?

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

It is not a bug, your system is functioning normally. The Marvell 88i8030 chips used by your motherboard are bridges which convert the Serial-ATA datastream into a parallel one before feeding it to the HPT374. Thus, you should expect to see the drive recognised as ATA133.

Thanks for the reply and explination Richard. It's good to know nothing is wrong.

I don't suppose you can shed any light on the "won't soft reboot problem"? I've seen it talked about on many forums but with no real solution offered.

I'm running with an 2500 Barton, and 4 x 254Mb sticks of Crucial PC2100 registered ECC RAM.

Any insight would be gratefully received!

Thanks

Mark

Sorry Mark, would if I could, but not really "up" on the AMD boards I'm afraid.

I am still using my at7 max2 for 5 or 6 months now.

I don't know what this post is about, soft boot. Could you please explain in a clear manner?

My at7 does reboot, from xp and software reboots.

It works fine.

my 2 cents

The problem is that, if you press the reset button, or get software to reboot, or exit the bios screen the machine will just hang before the POST screen. You need to do a complete shutdown, wait a few seconds, then boot the PC, and then it may take a few goes!

I have seen a lot of people in different forums describing this problem with Abit boards, but no real solution stated anywhere. The latest I've read suggest that it is incompatabilities with 333 FSB chips(?).

What speed processor and RAM are you using?

Now I understand.

My processor: xp1800
ram: www.satech.com 1 512mb pc 2700. No overclock

My at7-max2 is working great. I did have 2 of them built, but replace one with the nf7-s ver2.

When sitting up the bios, had cpu set up wrong. Thats when I have reboot problem. Had to shut if off. Thats it for my stuff.
