ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 (2006 Edition) crashes randomly

Usually when I am trying to open a new page in a web browser, my
computer screen will just turn black. I must then restart the computer.
In one case, the resolution abruptly changed to wide-screen mode, and
then to 640x480 mode with 4-bit color.

Quake III Arena appears to play fine but I am having game-specific
issues with World of Warcraft, which usually crashes 10-15 seconds
after the first screen appears. With an older graphics card, I used to
be able to Ctrl+Alt+Del to the Task Manager and close the program, but
now the computer shuts down when I do that.

I called technical support and they told me to update the drivers for
both the video card and the VIA chipset on my computer and change the
BIOS settings. I did both, and my computer still crashes.

    Any advice?
