I was flashing the BIOS in my BE7 (V1.0) and it locked up, I think it was a faulty RAM module, it was playing up thats whay I decided to flash a new BIOS, now its a mess... Eeeeek!

Anyway the boot sector/safety thingy bit in the bios works and the floppy with the Flash and BIOS with the 'runme' script is opens and runs fine....

BUT

I get the following message ' Program files part number does not match your system' and it crashes out to the A: prompt

What do I do now, I have downloaded the be7_dp.bin from the tw and usa sites, together with Flash progs all to no avail.

I tried the previous version of the BIOS the be7_cw I think, but that didnt work either.

How do I get my BIOS back, any ideas please.

Regards
Jerry

Hi Jerry -

Add /F to the end of your flash command, for example:

AWDFLASH BE7_DP.BIN /CC /CD /CP /R /PY /SN /F

Note the space before each "/" in the above example. The flash command modifiers I am using are as follows:

/CC = clear cmos data after programming /CD = clear dmi data after programming /CP = clear pnp (escd) data after programming /R = reset system after programming
/PY = program flash memory
/SN = don't save existing bios
/F = use flash routines in original bios for flash programming

Good luck!

Jef Hi
Thanks for the tip. Seems your 'Good Luck!' was justified...........

It did stop the dreaded message, but now it just sits and either locks up or dies flashing 'Please wait', no little block graph or any hint it's actually doing anything. I have actually left it for about 30 minutes to see if anything would happen, it didn't.

Has anyone any other ideas or is this a new BIOS jobby?

Where do you get them from in the UK?

sounds like a blown bios chip at this point... you can try the /f switch on the awdflash command line to see if that will force the flash through. consider a Bios Savior for situations like this so that you will have a spare bios to boot into in the event you blow the other up.

Hi

I did exactly the same thing a year or so ago in my BE6-II. Same messages and everything.

In the end I bit the bullet and sent the chip to Abit for reflashing. I think they gave a choice of 12 (?) for reflashing the existing chip or 18 (?) for a new one if the old one was unsalvagable. Mine turned out to be reflashable even though I couldn't do it, so it wasn't bad value in the end. At lot cheaper than these 'replace your BIOS for 25' companies.

Just contact abit UK support. Think mine took a week give or take.

I'd wait a couple of weeks until the revision 2 of the IC7-G becomes available If I were you. Check out the Abit fora if you bear this much human misery.
