Hello,

I have resently bought a Abit IC7-G motherboard and I have a problem getting my disks to function correctly. I have a Maxtor IDE133 Fluid 80 gb disk installed on Primary Master IDE Port, and WD 360GD disk installed on SATA1 and a Maxtor 160 gb Fluid on SATA2, I want the boot sequence to be, 1. WD 360, 2. Maxtor Fluid 160 gb and 3. Maxtor 80 gb, but no matter how a set up the options in bios (Onchip device settings and Boot sequence), the Maxtor 80 gb always comes first, and WD 360 gb number 2 and maxtor 160 gb as the last. It is very irritating, isn't it possible to get SATA booting before IDE???

In advance Thanks from Christian Aaberg

Ingrid Hi
Mixing IDE and SATA sometimes needs a CCMOS (clear CMOS) check your board manual.

It worked for me after I changed my IDE to SATA with the Serriel2 adaptors.

Good Luck
Jerry

Okaj, but I do you think it is the only possible solution to user the SATA adaptor with my IDE 133 disk??? It have just tried resetting the bios, It came up the same! So I a little confused as to how Im supposed to fix this problem....The menu Hard disk Boot Priority under Chipset Features, what is it for??? doesn't do anything, when I change the priority!

Ingrid Hi
When doing a CCMOS the whole system gets reset and initiates the RAID controller which you should notice during the POST, if you didn't notice it you didn't do the CCMOS properly?

In the std BIOS page you should see all your drives if there running, If SATA is running you should notice they now have channel numbers in addition to the IDE designation.

In the Advanced BIOS page, goto BOOT Device which should lits your disk options, chose the one you want to use a boot drive.

Save and Exit and seeit it boots, you will also have to rest CPU speed and other bits as you need, you may want to disable the RAID controller.

It may be easier if you mail me direct

Regards
Jerry

My experience is that the boot priority option works but is dependant on which disks have a bootable operating system on them. The first disk found to have a bootable OS (which could be disk two or three in your priority stack) will be the boot disk. If your first disk does not contain a bootable OS, set to active, it will be skipped and you won't get a "no bootable disk") message unless all your disks have no bootable OS on them.

Hope this helps.

you need to set the device sequence in the bios. download the newest manual so that the manual matches your bios and be sure you have flashed to 1.5 bios. I have the manual on my site at the address below under /manuals and the bios in available on my site under /motherboard bios.

there is a place in the bios where you set the priority of the devices on the system. she needs to do that.
