Hello

I have a ABit BX133 RAID Mutha board, just bought a 180GB HD drive but the board only recognises 127GB, downloaded the latest BIOS but still no joy, does this board not recognise BIG disks??

thanks
Neville

Your BIOS only uses 28-bit LBA.
This means that you can only boot from a partition within the first 128 GB. Your Operating System should see the full size as it starts booting. If not, you probably need a patch / service pack / newer kernel for it, or a newer OS.

No.

Jens is right; three years ago few motherboard manufacturers supposed hard drive larger than 137 Mbytes would be a commodity item (starting at just over $100 US.) Some have issued BIOS updates that support addressing for larger hard drives, aBit has not for the BX133-RAID.

Just in case, have you tried the 180 Gbyte hard drive on the RAID controller? If that does not work, then, as Jens says, your 180 Gbyte hard drive should have come with a helper program that enables the use of a 180 Gbyte hard drive.

the Highpoint controller will recognize drives bigger than 137 GB with 2.3x bios on the Highpoint controller. the main IDE channels (ide 1 & 2) will never be able to go above 137 GB.

The Highpoint controller does, as long as its BIOS and drivers are new enough. If the release BIOS doesn't support 48 bit LBA, get the Z72C custom BIOS and driver set from TomG's FTP server.
