Does anyone have any experience with using CAN bus? I want to look at using CANbus for a home automation application and although it seems (to me at least) to be quiet suitable for this, I can not find any examples of anyone doing this so I am wondering if anyone can give me any pointers.

What I am thinking is, the nodes on the CAN bus will be daisy chained using CAT5, the speed would not need to be that high, its just for control and status monitoring.

Does anyone have experience doing this or something like it?

Does anyone know what the limitations are in terms of number of nodes on a CAN bus?

Thanks in advance for any help

I think the number of nodes depends on the CAN bus speed and the length of cabling involved. The higher the speed the shorter the cable length IIRC.

There is a CAN group on Yahoo which is worth looking at.
