cdrom drives

i had 1 50 speed cdrom and a samsung cdwriter
both were listed in the control panel with the drive specs and revisions of both drives

now i have taken out the 50 speed cdrom and replaced it with a dvd drive dvd being the master and the cdwriter being the slave but now neither of the drives show up in the device manager anymore but i can see both drives in the my computer.... area i have tried to remove the second ide channel to let winxp put it back but still neither of my cd roms show up ...

you sure the drive is jumpered correctly? does it show in the boot screens on the IDE channel as the device it should and as the master or slave device that you believe it is set up to be?
