Hi,

I had just changed a new CMOS battery for my mobo and everything is fine for a month or so, but somehow since a week ago, the timing in the BIOS seems to be lagging behind and going slower whenever the system shut down. Now when I boot up, the time will be like few hours behind the actual time.

Any clues what might be the problem? Thx in advance.

Rick

thanxs guys for your advices, I will recheck the battery and also if there is any short.

Hi Rick -

Got a voltimeter? Sounds like you got a dud for a new CMOS battery.

Jef

check the battery again... either the battery was substandard to begin with or possibly you have developed a short to the case mounting in the area of the CMOS and battery.

Hi Tom -

I thought about offering up the possibility of a short around the battery/CMOS...

But wouldn't the OP get a clock set to default and CMOS errors at boot from losing BIOS settings rather than just a slow clock?

Curious (as I'm no expert in electronics).

There's a small chance that you just got a bad battery. More than likely, however, is that your clock has just gone faulty. If the latter is the case, then you have several options. Some options are:
Live with it
Replace your motherboard
Buy a new clock chip (I'm not sure you can get these anymore) During startup connect to the internet and set your clock to one of the atomic clocks

right here in this very group we have had postings (for those of us who have killed a brain cell or two with a Sapphire martini...) we have seen folks who had a short of *some* sort or another that resulted in batteries being killed quicker'n Homie mounts a sheep and slow system clock as a result and eventually, I would agree that system CMOS settings would be lost as well even in this "mode" of a short circuit related failure.

I agree that the more severe condition that the short would present would be exactly what you suggest.

I learn something new every day.

Actually... learned two things today. One: that short thingie. Two: that you haven't killed all your brain cells with Sapphire as I have.

I've killed brain cells, just in a different quadrant. I can no longer walk and talk or chew gum at the same time. glad to hear that you made a new friend!

Not a new friend. I've been working on perfecting the recipe for a Sapphire Squishy for quite some time.

The recipe is actually quite simple:

3-finger shot of Sapphire, dash vermouth, shaken, not stirred, with cracked ice, applied orally with garnish of choice. Reapply as necessary to attain that squishy brain feeling.

GEEZUS!!!

That seems quite a =JOLT= for your single neuron ... `eh, Jef ( 1 'f' ) ????

:-)
Qed.

actually, the "new friend" I was referring to was "that short thingie" you made reference to in your previous post... a "new friend."

by the way, the Squishy sounds yummy! I'll have to give it a shot but where do you put the olive?

You masticate it. Before, during or after.

That's not a new friend, either.

ROTFLMFAO !!!!

You guys really want me to tell you the (old) joke
about the 'caged' Ape( IQ = 150++ ) being fed peaches thru the bars ...

Geezus ... what'dya do with the Olive pit ...

I never heard/saw of olives that masticate.

You got it all wrong. It's TomG that masticates the olives. The olives are inanimate; how could they masticate?

And TomG doesn't need to do that other thing you have in mind. You know... the wife. You saw the picture. Available, ready, willing, experienced(!).

Sure... tell us. We know you got the time. And you certainly *need* to share.
