I've had no luck finding such
    information on this drive --
I'd like to get it to spin up
    when power is applied rather
than waiting for a SCSI Start
    Unit command and I'd prefer
    not to experiment. The mfr.
of record is HP, don't know
    the actual company of origin
but I'm pretty sure the HP
    part number is 232574-003.
    Thanks in advance for any
    help or hints.

post a link to an image ... its likely either a seagate, quantum or western
    digital.

    Can't find a decent one
on the web -- might have
to remove it and scan it
    on the label side. It's
    working fine as a data
    drive now, but because
    it's *so* much quieter
    on seeks than my ancient
    half-height Cheetah I
    want to swap their
    roles in system, hence
    the wish for immediate
    spin-up.

  5. Yup, starts to stink more and more of a troll.

    Drop dead, Folkert --
    then again, live another
    century just as miserable
    as you've always been,
    that's a far more
    appropriate and richly
    deserved fate.

    Well, in that case I
    apologize -- I'm sorry,
    Folkert, but you're still
    a very nasty (if very
    knowledgeable) poster.
    Moreover, Jeremy was
    right in that what I
    posted wasn't relevant,
    at least not directly --
    I was just trying to
    explain why I hadn't
    supplied the requested
    photo link and bothered
    the group(s) with my
    question in the first
    place. Mea culpa.

  9. It wasn't a troll. It was a comment in agreement with Jeremy
although very likely for different reasons.
It's only a troll if you make it out as bait and hook yourself on it.
Your intention to post the label side, *that* was irrelevant.
That won't help anything unless you deliberately lied about
what there was to be gained from that label in your OP.
Yes. It stinks an hour in the wind.
Either you are to bloody lazy to look up the docs on hp.com -using
the model number and partnumber (what else do you need) yourself-
or you tried that already and know that that is going nowhere, but
decided not to tell about it, and now laughing your head off knowing
how the poor schlobs eager to please are now frantically trying to do
what you already know doesn't work.

Now that is the textbook definition of a real troll.
    Yeah right.

    You really figure hp.com
    would have such a diagram?
    That's a perfectly useful
    answer -- thanks, my luck
    at that site has been
    spotty at best, but I'll
    give it a try.

    However, my tentative
    offer to scan the label
side was not a troll --
    someone more familiar with
    what various mfrs. drives
    look like might well be
    able to make an educated
    guess at an equivalent
    model for which there was
    a jumpering diagram by
    looking at it.

    Oh, and you're still a
    cranky old bastard, albeit
    a knowledgeable one.

    Just to follow up, just
    as I figured, there's
    no jumper information
    available via hp.com.

  13. And even there you didn't take a lousy 10 minutes or you would have easily found this one:

    http://imagehost.vendio.com/bin/vie...llow_track_link=1&track=0232cce0c5-d0af1&sp=1

You can almost read the label word for word.
But good enough to call you a lying and desceiving TROLL.
That's clearly a Seagate and it has the standard jumper diagrams
-as with all Seagate drives whether COMPAQ or IBM OEMs-
    clearly printed on the label.

Nothing like: " I've had no luck finding such information on this drive "

It very clearly says on the left diagram in no uncertain terms

MOTOR START ENABLE for the 3rd jumper from below.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to find out what that jum-
per does or whether is should be jumpered or unjumpered.
If jumpered then unjumper, if unjumpered, then jumper for
    the desired result.

How bloody difficult can it be.

    Yes, that's what I said, didn't I.

But thanks for confirming that you are indeed god
awful lazy and that your post was indeed a troll.

So I will now officially call you a LIAR and TROLL.

Bruce, if yours has the same label on the top as the one in the picture,
then you have your dumpering diagram you have been asking for. its printed
    right on the label.

im starting to think yer a douche bag ...

What, exactly, is a "fatal exception"? Is it reversible, or is info lost
fromthe unit? TIA. Btw, I'm a newbie.

    I wanted to know beforehand
-- but it turns out I had to
open the box anyway (to swap
out a CD-R), and some jumper
    information was on the label,
    but with no indication of
    what the sense of that
    jumper was. However, since
    the drive wasn't spinning up
and a jumper was in place,
    the obvious solution was to
    remove it, which worked fine.
    Problem solved, thanks for
    the help and the mockery,
it's all grist for the mill.

  19. Wow, almost two weeks to come up with such a lousy
excuse and obvious lie. You are indeed a douche bag.

Like you wouldn't have to do that to look up the info on
the label or to swap a jumper.
    So much for:
"I've had no luck finding such information on this drive"
Yes obviously there are 4 different ways to set it and 9 to remove.
    No, really?
Yup, other words for troll bait.
