Unless your looking at a model with a very small number of drive slots, there probably isn't a hardware issue. They may see it as redundant because the DVD burner also burns CDs. However, I see why you might want it to do disc to disc copies.

If you speak with a sales person instead of the automated system they may be able to special configure it for you. At the very least, you'd be able to purchase an external CDRW or add an internal yourself.

Of course it CAN be done. My guess is that both vendors see it as unnecessary and refuse to configure a system that way as both their included DVD burners will aslo burn CDs. Why don't you call 'em up and ask if there is any technical reason you can't have both in the same box? If the box will support both, then buy the system of your choice with the one device in it and order the other device from a 3rd party dealer and install it yourself.

If you don't wanna do the latter as cracking the case can technically void your warranty, then find another vendor who WILL allow you to "Have it your way".
