    Hello:

In addition to repeated SSH login attempts (recorded in system.log) my
console log also contains a number of entries like the following:

Feb 2 10:03:21 sapir kernel: arp: 169.254.215.94 moved from
    00:04:80:9b:10:00 to 00:0a:95:eb:86:40 on en0

I understand (sort of) that 169.254.xxx.xxx addresses are "link local"
    addresses.

Neither of these MAC addresses are the MAC address of my machine (as
    reported via Sytem Profiler).

Is this something I should worry about?

    Thanks

    Alan

  2. My guess is that these are reacting to gratuitous ARP broadcasts coming
from other subscribers on your broadband network. So at one time you
received an ARP from MAC 00:04:80:9b:10:00 announcing its IP is
169.254.215.94. Then later, MAC 00:0a:95:eb:86:40 announced that it was
using this IP. So your Mac updated the ARP cache, and logged the fact
    that it was doing so.
