I have experimented with the XP 2500+ Barton and the KT7A-RAID and got (with L3-3 and L3-5 cut) 2.0 GHz - very stable. Like it !!

Now I am building a new machine based on the NF7-S.

I plan to move the above mentione CPU with its cuts to the NF7-S and return my TB 900MHz to the KT7A-RAID. Following are my questions:

a. Can I just use the XP CPU WITH the cuts already made, on the NF7-S, or do I NEED to bridge them ? (I do want the best stable performance though).

b. Getting back the TB 900 to my KT7A-RAID, what cuts should I make on the TB 900 MHz to get more than the 900 ?

Thank you.

You can use it as is. If you need a multiplier lower than 13, I think the NF7-S allows this.

No cuts. Close the L1 bridges and then use the bios settings. You can close the L1's with a pencil, but conductive paint works better.

By saying "as is" do you mean with the cuts I made or "as is" from the factory ?

Do you mean to close all the L1 bridges (I see 4 open), as they came open from the factory ? (I have not made any cuts there).

What safe multiplier should I set the BIOS to ?

What closk speed should I expect from this (I need stability !).

Thanks.

As is means it doesn't matter. The factory default multiplier is 11, With L3-3 and -5 cut, the default is 13. Adjust it to whatever you want in the bios.

Yes.

Safe? I don't know. 9 should be safe since that's what its default is.

This totally depends on the individual cpu you have. It may top out at 950, or it may go over 1400MHz with enough vcore.

My NF7 allows to set the multiplier as low as 5x (with an unmodded XP1700+).

Furthermore, the Vcore can be set to 1.1 Volt at 500 Mhz..

A T-Bred running at 500 MHz, 1.1 V can be cooled by a passive heatsink - ideal for a small silent server.

That's very cool (to use a pun). Now all I need is a silent power supply...

Any recommendations for a SILENT 350 or 400W Power Supply ???

Check out the Antec TruePower 380S. The S stands for silent. It has a single temp-controlled fan. Comes standard in the Antec Sonata case, but can be bought separately.

The TruePower 380 is a high-quality PSU and quieter than most. The S version is the quietest thing in my case, inaudible over the cpu and video coolers.

In fact, the only bad thing about the Sonata is that it makes the other components seem obnoxiously loud by comparison ;>)
