Hi ! I just bought a Intel 3.0 800Mhz HT and an Abit IC7-G with corsair XMS 3500 434 Mhz... i thin kmy system runs to "hot"?
CPU:50-52
SYSTEM:35
PWM:36.50...
Is this normal?

What is the normal temp here? for:
CPU?
SYSTEM:?
PWM?
regards..
Tommy

your temps are in line with what others are seeing. the P4 runs quite a bit warmer than previous processors and there is also some discussion about the IC7 and IS7 boards possibly reporting temps a little on the warm side from what they actually are.. a P4 running in the 50 to 52 range is quite happy and the PWM typically runs about where you are seeing yours run unless you have installed a cooler like the Zalman Flower which seems to have the effect of cooling the PWM as well.

you seem in fine shape to me especially if you have a stock Intel cooler.

well yes it a intel boxed cpu so its intel original fan that camed with the cpu... Ok so its no worries for me then? regards Tommy

Depends. Where is "here" for you? And what is "PWM"? What operating system? Is APCI enabled? Are the temperatures you list for the system at idle, moderate load, or intensive CPU load? Your temperatures could be in the normal range, depending on the answer to the above questions.

nope... looks fine to me. others will, no doubt, chime in to confirm or deny.

the PWM is the Pulse Width Modulation voltage regulator for the P4 core.

The maximum operating temperature for that CPU is 70C, so you should be fine. The 3.0 Ghz CPU is boxed with a more effective heatsink/fan than is provided with slower CPUs. If you overclock your CPU to the point your CPU temp gets much beyond 60C for extended periods, you may wish to try a more effective heatsink/fan such as the Zalman 7000alcu or 7000cu.

I have the same CPU, memory and mobo. My temps as I type this are CPU 53c, system 35c and ambient 25c. Under heavy load such as an hour of FS2002 my CPU temp rises to 63-65c but the system remains stable. I've been running at these temps for a month and the only stability problems I've encountered have been caused by memory, its unstable unless I raise the DIMM volttage to
2.7v (I'm not overclocking). Abit reassure us that these high temps, or readings are within spec.but I remain sceptical.

your peak temps are a little higher than mine which top out at 60 so far. most often, they peak at 59 but the other day, I was LAN gaming and the room got a little warm (wonder why?) and I hit 60. no stability issues at all no that I have figured out that where I was overclocking my video card to was causing it to go bonkers during peak video loads.

I'd look closer at your case ventilation.
I'm running a P4 2.6C @ 3.26GHZ (1000 FSB) Abit IC7-G, Bios 1.5, Radeon 9800Pro @ 450/370. Completely stable.
My temps are on idle :
CPU = 42
SYS = 36
PWM = 36
On heavy load :
CPU = 53
SYS = 42
PWM = 40
This is on a stock cooler but I'm using a Thermaltake Xaser 3 case with seven fans and even though the weather has been hot here the temps remain the same. Good airflow can make all the difference to CPU temps not just a good cooler.

well it gets very hot when rendering 3d stuff...

My 2.8C is now running 43 in a 24 room, but starts in the morning at ~35 in the same 24 room. How could it be 8 warmer than ambient air when it has been powered down for eight hours? Methinks the sensor is awry.

your sensor could be off, no arguments. but keep one thing in mind... in literally seconds, a cpu such as a newer AMD or Intel P4 can heat up rapidly. in the time it takes for POST to complete and for you to get into the bios setup screens, your cpu could easily have heated up several degrees. and if you are not able to take your heat measurement until after the OS is on its feet from standby or a boot, then odds are quite high that the cpu will have heated up well beyond ambient.

Don't worry, be happy............all OK.

Get a Zalman 7000Cu cooler for the CPU if you really want to go to town on air-cooling the CPU....... or the 7000CuAl for very little difference in performance while still complying with Intel's heat-sink weight spec.

I didn't realize the CPU could heat up quite that fast. Perhaps it's reading properly after all. Assuming the HS is attached properly, can I assume that the heat generated at that point is an indication of CPU temp? Mine is only luke warm even when fully heated up.

it would be nothing more than speculation on my part as to whether your board has accurate sensors or by how much they might be off. what you see is not out of line with what I see on mine. probably there are many others that are quite close to our observations as well.
