DDR3 vs GDDR3

Have there been any benchmarks to compare identical cards, with one being
built on DDR3 and the other GDDR3? I'd like to know how much of a
performance difference exists. When a manufacturer takes a GDDR3 reference
spec and takes it down to regular DDR3, is that just smart savings for
everyone or does it scuttle the card's performance so that the manufacturer
can cut costs? I've tried googling but all I get are clueless forum threads.
