Drive rails for 3.5" HD in 5.25" bay - Precision 670

Discussion in 'Dell' started by Jonathan K. Cohen, Apr 6, 2006.

  1. I just got a Precision 670 workstation, and the docs say that it is
possible to add a fourth 3.5" hard drive in one of the 5.25" bays.
However, I need Dell rails in order to do it, and when I called Dell,
they had never heard of such rails. Has anyone ever done this? Is there
a part number I can reference?

Besides this, I don't see any extra power cables inside the chassis.
Where would one come from? I am puzzled.

As was answered, the rails themselves are in the machine. You need a set of
3.5 -> 5.25 adapters (for want of a better word). They're generic and
available at any CompUSA, etc. I bought a bunch on ebay as I've replaced a
lot of my CD drives with hard drives (hard to find spots for 1.5TB).
