I have the serillel 2 adaptor attached to a DVD drive and the SATA cable attached to SATA 1, the drive shows up in the bios without any problems but when I go into windows xp the drive does not show up, am I missing a driver or something, could someone let me know what I am doing wrong, thanks.

As I understood it, for the advanced functions of Serillel2 to work (Hot-Plug, support for ATAPI devices) you have to connect it to Silicon Image controller on your board. Intel's SATA controller doesn't properly support them.

Just thought I would say, when I connect the same drive into SATA 3 to 6 it works fine, so I take it that it will not work on SATA 1 and 2, am I correct.

I could be wrong on this but I thought I read that ATAPI devices were not recommended for the SATA channel through Serillel-2 adapters. in fact, I recall reading that only ATA100 devices or native SATA devices were supported.

Correct. SATA 1 and 2 are controlled by South Bridge. SATA 3 - 6 are controlled by Silicon Image Sil3114 chip.
