Emachines freezes up

    Hi, I could do with some pointers please. My emachines 540 has developed a habit of 'freezing' for anything up to 20 mins when I turn it on. To be more specific, I turn it on, Windows loads up and then when I try (for example) to open Outlook, nothing happens until it either decides to open of its own accord or I lose patience and switch it off at the wall and reboot. Pressing Ctrl/Alt/Delete doesn't help either. Once it's going, it seems to be ok, but there is definitely something amiss. Could it be my graphics card or a software issue? I use AVG anti-virus and anti-pop up software and as far as I know my PC's not inundated with syware/viruses etc. Any suggestions most welcome, thanks!
