Eric's Solitaire Sample quirk?

I have found myself hopelessly addicted to Eric's Solitaire Sample. It runs
    in the Classic Mode.

When I boot my G4 running Tiger, I have it set up to display my Stickies and
iCal. If I try to run Eric's at that point from the Recent Items menu,
Classic is invoked. I find that pressing the a key highlights all the aces
as it should. When I release the a key, however, the aces stay highlighted.
If I quit Eric's, and start again, everything works as it should

If instead of calling Eric's from the Recent Items menu, I invoke Classic
from the Menu Bar. Everything works normally/

This problem is not the end of the world, but I am curious as to what is
    happening.

  2. Why not get the full Eric's Ultimate Solitaire, which runs natively in
OS X? I've been hopelessly addicted to his Forty Thieves for years.

I don't want to feed my bad habit.
