External DVD-ROM (USB) on SUN Fire 210, Sun Fire 240?

Discussion in 'Sun Hardware' started by Ewald Jenisch, Apr 5, 2005.

  1. Hi,

Has anybody tried to use an external USB DVD-ROM on a SUN Fire 210 or
    Sun Fire 240 under Solaris9?

    Any Caveats/pitfalls?

We'd like to use one external DVD-drive for installation of several
machines instead of buying the internal "X7410A Slimline-DVD-ROM" for
    plenty of $$.

    TIA for your help,
    -ewald

That won't work, because current boot proms do not support booting from
USB or Firewire mass storage devices. You must use SCSI or ATAPI devices.
