G4/867 and large harddisks

I've just purchased a 160 G harddisk (internal, ATA, Maxtor) for my
G4/867. But it was a great surprise to me when I discovered that the
computer was only able to recognize it as a 128 G harddisk - making the
extra 32 G inaccessible. In a Danish newsgroup I was told that that was
how it was on a 2.5 years old computer ...

Does any way of circumventing this problem exist? A special partitioning
    program, for example?

There used to be problems related to partition sizes, not harddisk
    sizes.
Actually, such a card came with the harddisk. The manual just said »PC
    only - not for Mac«.
