    I just upgraded to a...

    Western Digital
2nd Gen. Serial ATA WD Caviar®SE
    Model : WDC WD1600JS-00MHB0

....hard drive, replacing my previous hard drive.

I'm using the onboard SATA0 slot and have the BIOS set to:
    Manual
SATA Port0 configure as SATA Port0

...yet in Device Manager, I don't find the word SATA or Serial ATA anywhere, particularly under the 'IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers ' section. Should'nt I see it listed as:

Intel(R) 82801EB Serial ATA Storage Controllers

    ..instead of what's there:
Intel(R) 82801EB Ultra ATA Storage Controllers

    ?

(It's listed twice, identically, by the way)

I tried installing (manually of course) the latest drivers provided by Gigabyte:

    2004/11/12 Intel INF installation 6.2.1.1001

Then tried the drivers straight from the source (always a more recent version of course):

    6/6/2006 INF Update Utility 8.0.1.1002

Here are some specs of my rig - more upon upon request:

    Mainboard : GA-8IPE1000-G (Rev 4.x) / BIOS F5
    Chipset : Intel i865P/i848P
    Processor : Intel Pentium 4 @ 2800 MHz
    Physical Memory : 2048 MB (4 x 512 DDR-SDRAM )
Hard Disk : WDC (160 GB)
Operating System : Microsoft Windows XP Professionnal 5.01.2600 Service Pack 2
    DirectX : Version 9.0c (September 2006)

    Thanks in advance.

    hi rachus

i pretty much have the exact same setup and the same
problems too. i simply cant find the SATA setup in the
bios to manage my raid type, prior to a clean xp pro installation.

i upgraded the bios to F5 but this is all i can find/change:
    Manual
SATA Port0 configure as SATA Port0
SATA Port1 then automatically configures as SATA Port1

i also tried to install scsi/raid controller drivers (from the CD and
from the intel/giga webpages) via F6 in the windows setup routine,
and it seems to install it (correctly?) but it makes no difference.

the two western digital sata hard drives will be displayed as
ide drives - as Intel(R) 82801EB Ultra ATA Storage Controllers
    - even though i have disabled primary ide0 and the sata
drives are correctly connected to sata0/1

friends i asked told me that there should be a sata controller
setup i can access during the bootup with CTRL-I or CTRL-G
but nothing works / cant find this menu, starting to believe i dont
    have it :(

    i appreciate any help,
