I am having some difficulty getting a S-ATA drive to operate as
    non-RAID on the Promise controller.

I have an existing XP Pro build that I want to put on the Promise
controller acting as ATA and not RAID.

Can someone provide the step-by-step process? I am trying to trouble
shoot problems on the intel controller side and I need to move the
non-RAID S-ATA drive to the Promise controller.

Do I connect the drive to the promise controller first or do I make
changes in the BIOS and install the Promise ATA drivers first? I can't
seem to figure out what exactly needs to be changed in the BIOS. I
don't see options to install ATA drives on the Promise controller. I
only see RAID options. When and what changes are needed in the BIOS?

Please be specific as possible. I'm at a point where I think I need
the step by step walkthrough. This is really frustrating.

    Thanks for any help,

    Randy

What problems are you having with the Intel controller ?
Before you switch the drive over you need to enable the promise controller
in the bios and install the promise drivers.
Reboot and press the delete key to enter the bios.
Go to "Onboard Devices" and set the "Onboard Promise Controller" to
    *Enabled*.
Set the "Operating Mode" to *Ide*.
    Save settings and reboot.
After rebooting you should see a notice that windows has found new hardware
and is installing the drivers. Let windows proceed.
If windows say's that it can't find the drivers you will need the cd that
    came with your motherboard.
Insert the cd and point the installer to: {CD-ROM
Drive}:\Drivers\Promise\378ATA\WinXP to the driver and click OK.
If you have any problems with the driver install you can install them
    manually.

Right click "My Computer" icon on the desktop. Select "Properties" when the
    menu appears.
Or you can press "Start" button. Move highlight bar to "Settings" and
select "Control Panel". Double click on "System" icon.
Select "Hardware" page and then click [Device Manager] button.
View devices by type and find "RAID controllers" node.
Right Click the "RAID Controller" node.
When the menu appears, click the "Properties" item.
Select [Driver] page to update driver.
Select "Install from a list or specific location[Advanced]" and then press
    next.
Choose "Don't search.I will choose the driver to install." and then press
    next.
Select "Have Disk". Browse the RAID mode path {CD-ROM
Drive}:\Drivers\Promise\378ATA\WinXP to the driver and click OK.
    Press Next.
    Press "Continue Anyway".
Finally, press Finish to complete the installation.
Restart you computer for these changes to take effect.

Once you have the drivers installed you can go ahead and swtich your drive
    over to the promise controller.
Make sure you power off your computer and unplug it from the wall BEFORE
you switch over your hard drive.
You may have to go back into the bios and set the boot order to the promise
    controller
