I have been trying to determine the cause of this but see conflicting information in this (and other) groups. Here are the specs:

NF7-S
2200XP
2x 256mb Corsair XMS PC3200
Geforce 3 ti200 vid card

When I put everything in place and tried to start it up, I just get long beeps. I have tried to reseat everything -DIMMS, CPU, Vid card, othing works. I took the board out of the case and booted to determine if maybe there was a short with one of the chassis screws or something -nothing but beeps. I know the card is good and the RAM is good -I had them both in other PC's and they worked fine. I tried to reset the CMOS but still nothing but beeps. I am going to take my Duron out of my other PC later just to rule out the CPU (which was working in another Mobo earlier but that mobo had problems). Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

sounds like it could be a bad board but try the other CPU and see what happens...

Rage,

Long beeps normally indicates bad RAM. If you haven't checked already make sure the sticks are firmly seated in their slots.

depending on which MB version you have- then you might need to use another stick of RAM and upgrade to a newer BIOS. Corsair XMS PC3200 is a known problem with older NF7-S versions. One you have upgraded the BIOS - that problem should go away. If you are running a current BIOS - please ignore

Thanks for the replys. The CPU "ruleout isn't going to happen as it is more of a hassle than I thought to take the chip outa my wife's PC (plus if there is a problem later -I'm toast...). I'll borrow a stick of 2700 on Monday and see if I can boot. This Corsair memory was the biggest pain with an ealier ASUS A7N8X board -I just assumed the problem didn't exist with this one (especially v. 2.0). If that doesn't work then I guess I gotta RMA the darn thing, in which case me head is going to explode. Maybe it's always been the ram but I am on my 3rd Nforce2 based board and I still have problems. It's giving me a complex but thi stuff ain't rovket science and I have built countless systems before. Thanks again -I'll keep the group posted for reference.

Fixed. I guess the first batch of Corsair XMS PC3200 ram is still a little flakey with these boards -even rev 2.0. I borrowed a stick of PC2100 and the unit booted right up. I went into the CMOS and changed the mem settings to 6-3-3-2 (which I read was the most stable settings for the corsair ram -plus I want the CAS2 setting since I paid the extra $ for it and it does make things faster). I put the corsair memory in and it booted like a champ -this mobo even told me that my 2 sticks were running in synch mode at the post screen -cool! Thanks everybody for all the help. I still can't believe that that this situation still exists (where you need to boot w/ a "more compatible" DIMM before using PC3200).

It IS fixed in the last two or three BIOS revisons from Abit. Update your BIOS so you won't need to borrow the PC2100 again if you need to reset CMOS...

Ciao...
