I'm thinking I will eventually want to add a decent sound card but until then, how do I connect my midi keyboard to the onboard sound on the IC7-G. Also, I'm having a problem setting up a midi output device in Sonar (Cakewalk). Any ideas?

Thanks

you can get a cable that will go from the gameport to your midi devices. there are also some USB based cables out also. then you should work fine in Cakewalk.

I use a MIDI Adapter from Gravis, called the UltraSound. It attaches to the game port of my sound card. It has three midi connections (IN, OUT, and THRU) and two joystick connectors.

They also make cables for this purpose. Check out the following on ebay:

The IC7-G has onboard sound and I don't see any game port. The way you are desribing is the way I have connect my keyboard in the past but I don't think I can do it with the IC7-G.

I'm sure some musicians will offer different advice but...

You could get a cheap sound card, one with a gameport/midi interface. Use the sound drivers or not but you'd have your midi interface. Maybe $10 USD.

There are USB-MIDI interfaces. They start from about $40 USD.

There are parallel port-MIDI interfaces. Old and probably expensive these days.

Or you could just get the sound card you want now.
