When I boot up I get pixel lines running the down the screen right off the bat - windows will not start up. FOr a while I was able to get into safe mode and was able to back my stuff up (note that the pixel lines went away in safe mode). Now I can't get windows up at all - can't get to the advanced options screen either (f8).

I've tried using the windows install cd's recovery utility, reinstalling windows, all of which fail - corrupt/missing window file (perhaps from failed attempt at recovery initially)

Is it possible it's jsut the hard drive - I'm thinking not because problems occur right on boot up before the hard drive is even involved and it seems
    like a gfx card issue.

Is it possible to make a boot disk so i can try reformatting the hd? The windows distribution that comes with hp doesn't seem to have many options.

    Thanks!
